This lovely fan was in our home when we moved in. We wanted this room to be the master bedroom so the plan was to replace the fan. However, my husband loves the amount of wind it puts out and our budget is gone. So I came up with another solution.
We realized the back of the fan blades were white. So, I flipped the blades over, painted the flowers white and replaced the butterfly pulls with some simple white ones from Walmart. Since I had the paint, the project total was about $5 for the new pulls. It's still pretty girly but much less distracting.

Bedroom Curtains
From Country Living. Don't curtains give a cozy and dramatic feel to the bedroom? They aren't just for around the windows.

Dreaming of a Guest Room
Right now I am dreaming of a guest room with light colors...white, grays or tans, pretty light blues, and hints of gold. Here's a little inspiration, mostly from DecorPad and a bit from my previous posts:
Why? Well, I did something a little crazy over the holiday. I bought this stuff. I kept eyeing it. So my husband gave me the ok if they would take $40 for all of it. I am so excited to paint!
The craziest part is we only have 2 bedrooms. I am hoping we will move into a bigger house sooner than later and we will have a guest room but...who knows?
Ok. Here's where I need your help. I have a Walmart gift card burning a hole in my pocket. There is still enough money on it to get one more inexpensive thing. I am thinking of a quilt or comforter. Chances are if we don't get a guest room, I will still need an extra blanket for guests, right? So, here are my options...
1. Forget the whole thing and wait.2. Buy this quilt.3. Buy this comforter.
4. Keep looking.

Pretty Bedroom with Yellow
Here's another room I like. Just add it to the "help me figure out my style" category, like these images. I found this at Virginia Johnson's via Oh Joy!I like almost everything in the room, especially the yellow bedding, brick, wood floors, window treatments, plant, headboard, and all of that natural light. I'm not sure what that thing at the end of the bed is but I don't care for it. I like the idea of the old metal stool as a side table but I don't think it's my style.

Decorating with Baby-Food Jars
I have been saving baby-food jars for a while. It's pretty crazy but they are just so cute and I don't recycle glass. I decided a baby shower is the perfect occasion to decorate with these. However, I also used these for our bedroom makeover. They would be perfect down the center of a long table. To make these arrangements:1. Clean your jars (I had to use Goo Gone to get the sticky part off).
2. Tie a bow at the top.
3. Arrange you flowers. I bought the mini roses and just used what was in my garden for the rest.
On a side note, the florist told me why my water gets stinky and gross. It's because I don't always remove the foliage below the waterline. Who knew? Also, fresh water every couple days helps.
I wish I would have made more of these tea-light candle holders. When it got darker, they really set the mood. They are really simple:1. Clean your jars (once again used Goo Gone).
2. Attach some rub-ons.
3. Place your tea-light inside.
You could probably add a little bow to these but mine got pretty warm. It might pose a fire-hazard.
Check back tomorrow for a final project idea and Monday for pictures of the party.

DIY Bedroom Makeover
Welcome to our bedroom! Just about everything was a DIY project.
My husband's biggest request is we had to keep the brown comforter. I wanted to get a new bedroom set but we couldn't afford to replace any of the furniture. So, after I got help choosing a color palette, this is what I came up with.
BEFORE
AFTER
The biggest project was painting all furniture and replacing the hardware. Here is a better picture of the night-stand. I took step-by-step photos of painting one of the drawers. Would that be helpful or is it pretty self-explanatory? *UPDATE* Here are painting directions.
BEFORE
AFTER
Here is how I did the candle wraps. I really love how it turned out. I wish my photos were better. It is such a nice, relaxing place now.
BEFORE
AFTER
Follow these links for the large silhouette artwork, the smaller framed art, and the pillows. I used the same pillow covers for the large pillows but I adjusted the size.
Some of the projects you can't see in these images are my box labels and curtains. If you like DIY room makeovers, check out this kitchen too.
Hope you had a Happy Independence Day!

Candle Wraps
CAUTION FLAMMABLE: THESE WRAPS ARE FOR DECORATIVE PURPOSES ONLY DO NOT LIGHT THEM!!
As I am putting the final touches on the bedroom, I noticed I needed a little color on the dresser. Since I don't have any funds I made due with what I have - dollar store candles, stamps, scraps of paper & fabric. This is what I came up with. Here are the materials.
Don't forget to come back Monday to see the completed room!

3 Pillow Covers in 30 Min.
I finished it! Yep. All the major parts of the bedroom makeover are done. It feels so good! I am so glad I made that my goal this month. Give me the weekend to clean and add some finishing touches and Monday I promise some pictures.
This was my last project...pillow covers. I wasn't sure if I would have time last night. I started working on them at 11:15. A few minor distractions later it was 11:45 and I was done! Follow my envelope pillow cover tutorial and let me know if you have questions.
This is the back. Can you see the edge I folded over to fit my pillow in? One reason it went so fast for me is I used the selvage edges of my fabric so I only had to sew two sides on each pillow. I just sewed down the sides after I had made the correct folds. It was a breeze. I'd love to hear what you think of my tutorial. Is it confusing?

Basic Curtains
I made some curtains for the bedroom. I got this fabric for $1 per yard at Walmart. So, for both panels it was $3!
Mine have a ruffle top, if you want it straight, start with fabric that is 7 inches longer than you want your curtains and fold down 2 inches on the top instead of four. Then skip the last step.
My hem is actually only 3 inches, although my directions say to make it four. For a longer or shorter hem, adjust the length of your fabric before you start sewing.
I hope this gives you a little visual. Any questions?

Make it Pretty
Sometimes I put up with ugly things because I forget...I can make it pretty! These storage boxes have been above our bedroom closet for a long time. When I saw this idea from the Make It and Love It blog, I decided to make my storage boxes look pretty too. I used pretty paper to cover up the ugly. Much better.
Here is my label. You can scale it down and make some of your own. The bedroom is getting closer...

Instant Art
Can you tell that I love spray paint? Here is another frame I spray painted. I found 2 matching frames at Deseret Industries and did the same for both. Go here for instructions. I was going to put my hubby's and my initials in them. I decided not to because I thought it might be a lot when they are grouped with this silhouette artwork I did. So, for the artwork, I just cut a little piece of scrapbook paper. One more project down for the bedroom.

Night-stands
I feel like I have a list a mile long of unfinished projects. Eeek! So, I have decided to FOCUS this month on finishing the "master" bedroom. You still call it the master bedroom, even if it is pretty small and not so masterful, right? I have already finished some of the projects for the bedroom.
I am really happy with how the night-stands turned out. My husband's parents gave us two sturdy night-stands for our first Christmas as a married couple. They have held up well and matched our other furniture. Now that I decided to paint the other furniture, I wanted these to match with the same paint color & new hardware. It was easy and rewarding. Any how-to questions?

Framed Silhouettes
BEFORE
AFTERI am working on re-decorating our bedroom. I want it to be a relaxing place that celebrates us as a couple. I found this frame at our local Deseret Industries (a thrift store & donation center).
The most simple way to make the silhouette cut-outs is to follow these directions I found via ohdeedoh. Here are my instructions:
